Mark E Tisdale dot Net – Home Page for the Geek With A Camera

This site is my home on the web – where you’ll find my personal blog. It’s also a jumping off point for those interested in following me online. In addition to this site, I have a few others that you might enjoy checking out.

My personal blog runs a gamut of mostly geeky topics from genre TV to social networking with the occasional random thoughts. For a number of years, my personal online journal included my travels and art and photography, but for a number of reasons I decided to separate those topics into their own sites. While there are a number of new and old friends who enjoy the many facets of me, I felt the wider audience out there was less interested in some ancillary topics. If you’re a kindred soul who enjoys all these topics, be sure to say hello!

Flickr Redesign Is Kind of Pinteresty

Screenshot of Flickr Redesign

When I stuck my head out of the rabbit hole today, I saw the new that there had been a major Flickr redesign. I was… lukewarm… at the news. Flickr… what can I say about Flickr? I’ve been a member since 2006, but I didn’t initially join for a place to share photos. I was already on other sites at the time. I joined Flickr because there was an active Atlanta community of photographers on Flickr. I joined it so that I could be part of the various meet-ups and … Continue reading

The Doctor’s Name

spoilers

Ugh, I spent the past few days battling what was either food poisoning or a side-effect of Zyrtec. I’m not sure which it was but I wish it on no one. Oh well, not a friend anyway. Ha! Anyway, in the midst of that, I sat up and watched the finale to Series 7 of Doctor Who. Before I get to specifics, I really have to say again how much I dislike the abbreviated half-series thing they’re doing. I felt like the first half of Series 7 was rushed and … Continue reading

Thriving Industry of Facebook Like Farms

Classic Like Farm Shares

I’d love to say I invented the phrase Like Farm, but it’s entirely possible I read it somewhere before as a brief search turned up other articles on the growing phenomenon. For awhile now, I’ve been watching my own news feed fill up with random images and slightly saccharine quotes. It’s been one of those things that ebbs and flows, but recently the flow has seemed stronger? Part of my recognizing this issue is an ongoing angst with how much of it is simply stolen content. I’m sure many of … Continue reading

The One in Which Google Images Angers a Great Many Webmasters

One of my images on Google Search

I don’t think Google’s latest changes to its image search has made many friends. Yet, outside of possibly visual artists and webmasters, I’m not sure the rest of the world cares yet. Still it’s been interesting reading all the fuss lately! What did Google do the rest of you may be wondering? Well, I’m sure a few of you along the way have used Google Images to search for something. Even if you didn’t directly search for an image, you may have seen image results on the first page mixed … Continue reading
