Beyonce vs Mercury Meme Misses The Point

Ah, don’t you love inter-generational rivalry? My music/clothes/cars/whatever-else-you-have trumps yours! If there’s anything that’s fair game it’s that whatever is new is always crap compared to my generation! And as sure as you roll your eyes when someone says it about the things you like today, given time, you’ll probably utter a similar treatise on the next generation. I rarely have use for rose colored glasses on the past. And when I saw this Beyonce vs Mercury meme making the rounds, my head nearly exploded. There’s so much wrong with … Continue reading

Farewell Ponds – You’ll be Missed

I can’t believe how fast these half series of Doctor Who are over. I’d truly rather get it all in one dose, but no one at the BBC asked me. And I’ve been too wrapped up getting my Ireland art uploaded on my account on Fine Art America to post any of my thoughts about it. What finally moved me to sit down and compose some thoughts about the season so far was seeing this recent PS to the Angels Take Manhattan that was posted by the BBC: It shows … Continue reading

Rockfest 1999

As many years as I’ve blogged (off and on, not consistently I fear), it’s amazing to me some time to look back on memories that I was sure I blogged and discover, nope I didn’t. It’s like my memories are somehow now in text form even if they aren’t?! Take today, I was reminded of Silverchair playing at Rockfest at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1999. I was sure I remembered writing about the day I spent there and then I look at my blog and the first entry is two … Continue reading

Green Lantern Two Hours Well Spent

One of the few things I miss about my old place in the suburbia of Atlanta is that in my old townhouse, I was literally 5 minutes from the seats of an 18 screen cinema. Not five minutes to the door or the parking lot, but to sitting and waiting for the movie to start. So, now living in rural Georgia, I’m a lot pickier about what I go and see. I’d been looking forward to the new Green Lantern movie for awhile now. High among the many superhero comics … Continue reading

Farewell Smallville

The end of an era, the end of Smallville. It’s funny actually, the entire first season of Smallville had passed before I watched the first episode. The second season was underway already! Partly work was to blame, but mostly I had written the show off without seeing it. It was basically Dawson’s Creek mixed with a little X-Files as far as I could tell. It was not the Superboy stories I had grown up with at all. And then some Sunday afternoon, I finally sat down to the first episode, … Continue reading

Three Episodes into Series 6 of Doctor Who

I suppose now is as good a time as ever to revive my poor old personal blog. Those who are all about the pictures and the oh-so-glamorous travel should pop over to those respective blogs, but I hope some friends (old and dear and possibly new) will enjoy some of the meanderings of my brain. First off, a re-cap, when Doctor Who returned to our screens back in 2005, I was honestly luke-warm. Despite nearly a decade since the made for TV movie here in the states, the mostly bad … Continue reading

Long Awaited Updates – From DIY to Entertainment

Okay, I can only guess at how long they’ve been awaited, but I have been very MIA of late.  Nothing super exciting, but I suppose I should do a bit of updating here. The biggest thing of late has been re-doing my kitchen.  I moved in to my current abode nearly 8 years ago.  The kitchen at that time was little changed from 1988, when it was built.  All the same appliances, but the burgundy paint was probably not so original.  That was the only thing I changed then.  Repainted … Continue reading

INXS – More Of The Rose Colored Glasses

I’ve documented elsewhere that I recently went all digital. All my music is now in the form of ephemeral bits and bytes on my hard drive (and backed up elsewhere). And my three shelves of CDs have been compressed down to a couple of binders. Although a freeing experience, I’m still dealing with the effects to some degree. I ended up choosing J River’s Media Center to handle my virtual library of music, and have been steadily working my way through the catalog to rate all these years of music … Continue reading

Roger Clyne – Turbo Ocho

First, I have to explain, because many may have no idea that my favorite band is a little band from Tempe, Arizona.  Roger Clyne led a band in the mid 90′s under the name, The Refreshments.  They had one big hit that most people who listened to music at the time would recognize if they heard it but I’ve yet to deliver the title and had Joe Public recognize it. The Refreshments released two albums, and then had studio issues and split.  I never forgot the band, but I didn’t … Continue reading

A Vampire Weekend Out of Season

I spent the day doing some website maintenance. Funny, I thought I was going to do some house cleaning. Coincidence or procrastination? Hmmm…. Anyway, while I was chained to the laptop, I finally caught up to the latest podcast at Have You Heard – a fairly new but swift growing local podcast. The folks doing it are local, the music calendar is local, but the music, is diverse in location and taste. There have been several bands added to my myspace friends list to keep up with, but today I … Continue reading
