Will My Windows Become History

That’s something I never thought I’d say.  I’m actually considering a mac.  I don’t mean that in a negative way, just that sometimes I’m a creature of habit, and I’ve spent over a decade using Windows based PCs and most recently laptops. I’ve had a fujitsu for nearly three years now.  I still love the picture on this laptop. It’s incredible, when it’s not crashing.  And the bad thing is I’m fairly certain it’s the integrated graphics that’s giving up the ghost on it.  I won’t bore with too many … Continue reading

Living With The Darkness

I think I may well have been one of the few who took note of Earth Hour in one of Georgia’s newest “cities” – Johns Creek. On one of my typically many tangents, I find it hard to accept this as anything more than a tax district.  There’s no city center and no real history. The history that was here was tiny little places like Ocee and Warsaw, unincorporated communities that were wiped from the map by suburbia.   Despite there being historic but already lost communities with names here, it … Continue reading

The Magic Of Stardust

A few weeks ago, I sat in a theater and watched a trailer for a film called Stardust, and I resolved to see it for a very silly reason. Granted much that is good has stood on nonsensical ground, my grounds were that much of the on location photography was filmed in beautiful Scotland. Much appears to have been, in fact, captured on paths I trod myself, on the beautiful Isle of Skye. And look at that scenery! Is it any question why a fantasy story would be filmed in … Continue reading

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing….

Long day… This morning, I managed to crunch my universal remote control. Mind you, this wasn’t a cheapy one, but one that I had bought a few years ago that could learn from other remotes and could record macros so that I didn’t have to hit a thousand buttons to power up the TV, cable box, receiver, etc. I accidentally knelled on it and the LCD cracked. WAHHHHHHHHH!!!! or maybe… KAHHHHHHHNNNNN!!!!!!! Anyway, I digress… This prompted an unplanned purchase. I did a little online research and then went to Fry’s. … Continue reading

Weekend Wandering

askHad a nice weekend. I got jack done at home of the things I should have done, but sometimes that’s better. Saturday I slept until noon… yes… noon. And then I napped some more. I did finish painting the trim on the stairs that night but that’s all I accomplished for the entire weekend. I didn’t even put the hardware back on the doors in the hall, pick up the paint paper or clean the carpet so that I can move stuff back into the hall. So, very little accomplished. … Continue reading

My Head is Full

Trying to get back into the habit of semi-regular exercise, which in winter is hard for me. I have a treadmill (thanks to my Mom breaking her ankle a few years ago and not being allowed to do weight-bearing exercise anymore), but there’s little I find more boring. I listen to music most of the time, and on the odd occasion will watch TV (Supernatural last night), but I find I slow down with the TV on. I like it better during the long days of summer when can get … Continue reading

Playing Catch-up

So, I haven’t posted anything new in awhile. But other than the usual internal chaos, nothing new to report anyway. Fighting some allergy or something. If it’s a cold, it’s very atypical as I don’t feel congested, feverish. I’m just sneezing and coughing A LOT. The cough is a dry wheeze and nothing is ever coming from it… I was home over the weekend and by Sunday everything had cleared. Within hours of being back, it resumed. But it’s worse at work than at the house. My allergy theory seems … Continue reading

Crazy Dreams & RIP

Had some anxiety surface in a dream last night. Not really sure of the source of it at the moment. But in retrospect, the dream was rather funny. I, apparently, was traveling and arrived at the airport with only my backpack, which contained no clothing. I checked the pack in and then when it was time to board the plane realized that I had nothing to read, nothing to listen to – everything was in the one bag I checked. This was when I realized that I had brought NOTHING … Continue reading

First post of the New Year! Had a nice Christmas at home with the family. Spent a full week with my parents. I think that may be the first time since I moved to Atlanta 6 years ago. Every trip home that was very long usually included a trip to see other family… Still, it was very nice. Have finally made the booking for my accomodations in London for April. I had thought very serious about staying in a hostel. Given that I’m traveling alone, it seemed like a good … Continue reading

My Trip Through LA (Lower Alabama) A few weeks ago now, my mom and I made a weekend trip through southern AL and spent two nights in the town she grew up in, Andalusia. My dad’s family was in the same county for like four generations (really beyond if you consider my cousin and his children live in Andalusia). There aren’t a lot of places where I feel a sense of roots. My mom’s family, I joke, are like generational nomads. Every generation in my direct lineage ended up somewhere … Continue reading
