Extended Stays

So, last Friday was my final day at Equifax.  I’ll still be back and forth to Atlanta for a bit until I move my stuff in storage and won’t entirely cut ties until I manage to sell my house, but soon, I’ll get to move onto another chapter of my life.  A little travel and then we’ll see what’s next. But there will surely be some interim stops here at home while I await the sale of the house and possibly longer if I decide to go back to school.  … Continue reading

Life is a State of Mind

I guess you could say a fair bit has been going on in my life this year.  After a decade working with the same company, I’ve decided to cut ties and try something new.  When I figure out what that is, I’ll let you know!  It’s a long involved story for one on one time if you care, but this was the right thing for me to do right now and although it’s a little scary in this economy, I don’t remember being happier in quite some time.  My intentions … Continue reading

Living With The Darkness

I think I may well have been one of the few who took note of Earth Hour in one of Georgia’s newest “cities” – Johns Creek. On one of my typically many tangents, I find it hard to accept this as anything more than a tax district.  There’s no city center and no real history. The history that was here was tiny little places like Ocee and Warsaw, unincorporated communities that were wiped from the map by suburbia.   Despite there being historic but already lost communities with names here, it … Continue reading

Cannot Deny Geekiness

So, despite being cool yesterday, in an almost fall-like manner, the sun was bright and beautiful. I know this because I saw it from my window. Despite my gung-ho attitude to get out and enjoy Saturday, I was tired and bum-like and barely stirred before noon. And when I was finally up and moving, I came in and began spring cleaning on my 4 year old PC. This is the geeky part. I actually feel bad that I’ve never done a clean install on it. In four years, I’ve just … Continue reading

As Sure As the Seasons Come and Go

Spent the day doing a little reading and in between prepping my hallway for a repainting. Whee? I also watched a few more eps from my Smallville Season One box set. There are episodes from this season I never watched because during the original run I had no interest. It was only thanks to the WB showing it on Sunday afternoons that I got hooked enough to follow the series into season two. I digress… So, last load of laundry running and I find myself at the computer after finishing … Continue reading

Childhood I’ve been reflecting on childhood in the small town versus what it must be today in a place like Atlanta. I guess all things are relative to what you experienced. If you had asked me as a teenager if I would ever look back on life in a small town as something positive, I would have laughed at you. At that point in my life, I felt that there had to be more to life. This past week, I was checking out a sneak preview of a movie at … Continue reading

Spent the weekend with the folks for Mother’s day and so that I could retrieve my cats. Took Friday off, so had a three day weekend with them. Worked on painting the trim on the back of the house. It’s looking good for a house in the realm of 100 years. By the end of the summer, we should finally be done with this project. Meanwhile, my own home is in need of trim painting. I got a letter from the Home Owner’s Association alerting me to this last week. … Continue reading

File this one under: You know you’re getting old when: You go to work and spend the first two hours of the day wondering whether or not you turned off the heating pad that you were using to doctor your aching foot. And then you finally leave work and take an abbreviated lunch just that day just so that you can confirm… drum roll please…. Yes, the heating pad was off…. Add to that this evening. Went to dinner with a friend after work – largely to bitch about co-workers … Continue reading

Just finished my walk this evening and am now guzzling water. Not much new at work today, which isn’t per se a bad thing. The rest of this week may be a little busier than last but not a big deal I suppose. I bought back cookies and brownies for my team, our Technical Consultants, and for a manager who had asked me to buy her some after the last time I bought some to work. These are from the “Mennonite Restaurant” back home, also known among our locals as … Continue reading
