Mighty Oaks From Little Acorns Grow

I’m cautiously optimistic about my knee. In the last week, I finally experienced some improvement again. When I first started physical therapy, there was definite improvement. I went from struggling up the stairs to dull yet constant pain. It was better than before, but better is still not well. The stall has lasted quite awhile, but last week, we changed up the exercises and started doing electro stimulation on my knee. Don’t know if it’s one or both of those or it was just time, but I found myself feeling … Continue reading

How I Spent My Day

So, I guess if you don’t stroke your own ego, who will? I did go down to the My Atlanta photo show in Piedmont Park today and posted four of my Atlanta shots from between now and spring. All of them are featured in a previous journal at my deviant art gallery. Now, putting this all in perspective, it’s a free show and all levels are welcome. After I put my pieces in, I wandered off for awhile while other people were setting up and soaked in some of the … Continue reading

“Remember your childhood and pass it on…” For around three years, I’ve been hearing about Herobear and the Kid. This story was written and drawn by Mike Kunkel, an animator who from an early age had the itch to draw. Although he chose to scratch this itch first as an animator, this personal project has lead to a second career, as a partner in The Astonish Factory. Each year at Atlanta Comicon, I’d go see Mike speak. At first, I didn’t go because I knew who he was. I went … Continue reading

The Con has Come and Gone I thought I would give a blow-by-blow account of Atlanta Comicon 2004, but you’ll have to settle for an after-the-fact and perhaps sketchy accounting. …but only after I load the dryer, which was what I came up here for half an hour ago…. Okay, and after that episode of Trading Spaces… Friday night of the Con was a sort of party. It was a sketch jam for charity. I’ve never really been the sort of person who asked or paid for sketches, but this … Continue reading

Nicest thing said to me in awhile Yesterday as I was getting ready to head over to Atlanta Comicon (more to come on that after it’s over), the neighbor’s grandkid, who I’d guess is right about to hit his teen years or just has, asked me if I was a college student…. Now, I’m guessing he’s not the drinking type yet, so this wasn’t from hitting the sauce. As old as I feel lately, I’ll take it as a compliment. Don’t anyone dare burst this bubble!

Time Marches On Had to skip my morning treadmill torture today. I’ve had a catch or something in my side for two days. Today, I felt it on awakening, an almost stab-like sensation on my right side right about the bottom of the rib cage. Another one hit in the shower. Where the first few on Monday were momentary, they hit and hang on for 20 or 30 seconds now. Always a worry-wart, I called the doctor. Have an appointment for tomorrow to get checked out. I’ll probably find out … Continue reading

Largely a quiet weekend. We had a good week of rain. It’s been kind of gray and lazy but I hope the periods of rain continue. My plants need the rain! Saturday I got one of my friends to go to the comic shop with me for Free Comic book day. I sent out a great many reminders to others the day before. I hope even if none of my attemps pan out others tried to get people out there! That was pretty much all of Saturday. I spent the … Continue reading

Have been reading posts to the message board at Atlanta Comicon and just saw a posting for a review of the Con along with photos. I took some digital photos myself, but not too many. Unlike DragonCon where there’s tons of eye candy and elaborate costumes, Atlanta Comicon is more laid back. Not something I’m complaining about! I’m sure as the con evolves more people may start doing more elaborate things like DragonCon, but I only saw a few storm troopers, a couple of G.I. Joe characters (Yo Joe! – … Continue reading

I had every intention of posting a blow-by-blow account of my weekend at Atlanta Comicon, however I don’t think I would know where to begin. From beginning to end, I had a good time. Friday night was a simple gathering at one of the two host hotels, the Ramada on Pleasant Hill. While I spent some time doing my impression of a wall-flower, it was fun warm-up for the rest of the weekend. I helped a little with wiping out the free bar and even managed to socialize a bit. … Continue reading

Just got home from Night #2 of Atlanta Comicon. So far, I’ve had a great time. I’ve hung out with some neat people and got some cool stuff. All in all a first rate weekend, but I’m entirely too tired to adequately document tonight. Soon!
