Grandma Called To Say Hi

Okay, anyone who knows me fairly well will be sufficiently puzzled by that one. You see, to cast that same mystery for you all, both of my grandmothers have passed on, the last one over 5 years ago now.  It doesn’t seem like that much time has passed, but in the interim, I’ve been to the UK four times, Mexico twice, and rounded it out with single trips to Italy and Egypt.  So, I guess some water has flowed under that bridge. By comparison, my maternal grandmother has been gone … Continue reading

Days of Leisure?

The company I work for occasionally offers discount tickets to the odd event or amusement park. But for the first time in 8 years, they gave their employees and family members the opportunity to visit Atlanta’s High Museum for free! Shockers! The moment I saw that I knew I was going. I haven’t been to the High since I was in High school. And honestly, my memories from that visit are far more centered around seeing the city and time spent with friends. The High has since expanded and taken … Continue reading

Mark’s Rattlesnake Roundup

Today’s title brought to us by the letter R is just my nutso way of saying that there will be a cacophony of topics ahead. A little of everything and little of value to world peace. Does the World Need Superman? Friday night, I met up with some friends, Chris and Dan, to catch Superman Returns. I had hope to see it Wednesday night after work, but work would have no part of that idea. I worked late every day. So, Friday, I scooted home and then off to meet … Continue reading

It’s Just Money, right?

So, all my life, I’ve noticed that I’ve combined the best and worst of my families. I can be incredibly tight-fisted with money, and then I’ll go bonkers and spend like there’s no tomorrow on which to worry. So, I’ve recently been more on the latter end of things. For instance, I’m sitting here typing this on my laptop in the middle of the living room floor. So, yes, I bought the laptop mentioned earlier, wireless router, etc. The latest purchase was a laptop desk, more to keep the laptop … Continue reading

How Can a Wednesday Feel Like a Monday?

I think I fall into the trap of not blogging everytime I come back from a trip. Everyday observations may not be as fun, but every so often, just writing down your thoughts can be cathartic and a little gem of words might crop up. You never know. I spent the earlier part of the evening doing such fun things as laundry (waiting to be folded now) and paying bills. There’s some perverse little side of me that takes joy in sitting down with the bills and getting them all … Continue reading

Playing Catch-up

So, I haven’t posted anything new in awhile. But other than the usual internal chaos, nothing new to report anyway. Fighting some allergy or something. If it’s a cold, it’s very atypical as I don’t feel congested, feverish. I’m just sneezing and coughing A LOT. The cough is a dry wheeze and nothing is ever coming from it… I was home over the weekend and by Sunday everything had cleared. Within hours of being back, it resumed. But it’s worse at work than at the house. My allergy theory seems … Continue reading

This is from the “Yes, I am insane – thanks for asking” department: Sitting at work during lunch today I was checking out airfare to various places. There was an awesome fare to Australia listed at Clark Howard’s site – with tax $1,070 – which I’ve never seen from Atlanta. I’ve seen under $1k only from LA. If I hadn’t just put in the new transmission, I would have been sorely tempted. So, first time since November of 2003 that I haven’t had plans to go somewhere sometime. Nothing, nada, … Continue reading
