I Can Laugh Now

Picture this, I had to go to Chicago on a business trip this past week.  There wasn’t a lot of advance notice, but it was not the first time, so I sailed through the trip arrangements and off I went. Arrived Monday afternoon for an all day meeting Tuesday.  Tuesday flew by, quite busy, and I hopped back in the rental car and drove to O’hare.   Checked in the car and got to the terminal, rushed to the Delta Kiosk, and swiped my credit card.  I half paid attention when … Continue reading

Long Awaited Updates – From DIY to Entertainment

Okay, I can only guess at how long they’ve been awaited, but I have been very MIA of late.  Nothing super exciting, but I suppose I should do a bit of updating here. The biggest thing of late has been re-doing my kitchen.  I moved in to my current abode nearly 8 years ago.  The kitchen at that time was little changed from 1988, when it was built.  All the same appliances, but the burgundy paint was probably not so original.  That was the only thing I changed then.  Repainted … Continue reading

Coming Together

The past few weeks have been busy as usual. Work has been demanding of late, and I’ve been trying to get ready for a photo show that was on Friday. It was one of those things I kept meaning to put out there for everyone and never got around to it except for a bulletin on myspace at the last minute. The show was great. We had a huge crowd of people through the gallery and the organizers did a great job of putting it together. I had 4 framed … Continue reading

Living With The Darkness

I think I may well have been one of the few who took note of Earth Hour in one of Georgia’s newest “cities” – Johns Creek. On one of my typically many tangents, I find it hard to accept this as anything more than a tax district.  There’s no city center and no real history. The history that was here was tiny little places like Ocee and Warsaw, unincorporated communities that were wiped from the map by suburbia.   Despite there being historic but already lost communities with names here, it … Continue reading

21st Century Digital Boy

I guess I started down this path in the last year. As part of my continual paring down of the material things in my life, I sat down with a box of old cassette tapes (oh horrors) and copied them to MP3. Most of them, some had degraded too much to save. I didn’t have acres of cassettes. And, honestly, most of my choices for music in that era of my life don’t thrill me anymore, but it was a sentimental trip. Then this past week, I wanted to get … Continue reading

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Kroger

Almost two weeks ago, I was having my pre-op for the surgery.   The hospital is down the street in Duluth, but the opposite direction I usually go to shop and all.  That morning, I stopped by the Kroger coming from that direction instead.  It’s a slightly older and less remodeled Kroger than the mammoth one nearer to me.  The interesting thing was as I came in, they had big band music playing out over the store.  I thought it was unusual but figured maybe they had music timed to … Continue reading

The Automatic LIVE

Exausted but well pleased! Deramtologist visit this afternoon in Buckhead area and then loitering about as long as I could before wandering down to Vinyl to catch The Automatic in their last US show before going back to the UK to continue touring. The opening act, Modern Society, was pretty good.  I think more of the audience knew their stuff than me, local act.  I’ll check out their stuff some more once I’m awake.  I was cash-less or I would have probably just taken the plunge on the CD – … Continue reading

Days of Leisure?

The company I work for occasionally offers discount tickets to the odd event or amusement park. But for the first time in 8 years, they gave their employees and family members the opportunity to visit Atlanta’s High Museum for free! Shockers! The moment I saw that I knew I was going. I haven’t been to the High since I was in High school. And honestly, my memories from that visit are far more centered around seeing the city and time spent with friends. The High has since expanded and taken … Continue reading

No News is….

Not sure where the “no news is good news” thing comes from.  I guess it has it’s good points, but as the continuing knee saga unfolds… I’m not sure I agree… After weeks of physical therapy, I went back to the orthopedist last week.  I had improvement in physical therapy, but in the end, I had hit a plateau that I couldn’t seem to get around.  The improvement just leveled off and stopped.  And after weeks of that, the physical therapy people said it was time to go back. The … Continue reading

Techy Weekend

I had planned to go down and see some art at the Dogwood Festival this weekend as I have the past couple of years.  However, the weather was just plain unappealing and I had no real desire to get out. Last week I started putting together a new website.  I’ve only ever had a free one or that wee bit of space that your ISP provides.  I quit updating
