Green Lantern Two Hours Well Spent

One of the few things I miss about my old place in the suburbia of Atlanta is that in my old townhouse, I was literally 5 minutes from the seats of an 18 screen cinema. Not five minutes to the door or the parking lot, but to sitting and waiting for the movie to start. So, now living in rural Georgia, I’m a lot pickier about what I go and see. I’d been looking forward to the new Green Lantern movie for awhile now. High among the many superhero comics … Continue reading

The Magic Of Stardust

A few weeks ago, I sat in a theater and watched a trailer for a film called Stardust, and I resolved to see it for a very silly reason. Granted much that is good has stood on nonsensical ground, my grounds were that much of the on location photography was filmed in beautiful Scotland. Much appears to have been, in fact, captured on paths I trod myself, on the beautiful Isle of Skye. And look at that scenery! Is it any question why a fantasy story would be filmed in … Continue reading

Mark’s Rattlesnake Roundup

Today’s title brought to us by the letter R is just my nutso way of saying that there will be a cacophony of topics ahead. A little of everything and little of value to world peace. Does the World Need Superman? Friday night, I met up with some friends, Chris and Dan, to catch Superman Returns. I had hope to see it Wednesday night after work, but work would have no part of that idea. I worked late every day. So, Friday, I scooted home and then off to meet … Continue reading

Being Sick Ain’t No Fun

I started feeling kinda poorly the end of last week, scratchy throat, sniffles – the usual. Was hoping allergies. Went home for an early rendition of Dad’s birthday (which is actually this coming Friday). With luck the folks won’t look back on the visit as the coming pestilence. Saturday and Sunday I continued to feel worse. Only drove back to Atlanta Sunday because I had a big project shipping Monday that no one else knows… great… By Monday morning, I was sure that I had a feeling for what the … Continue reading

The Future Is Now

It’s funny, I work in tech – not out of choice but some perverse destiny. I even spent a year plus of college taking programming classes because everyone thought that’s what I should do with my life – before I realized that programming, which I was competent at, bored me. I changed majors, for the last time in my college career, to Sociology – because it had at that point in my life been one of the few classes that actually engaged my brain a bit. Flash forward a decade … Continue reading

Today was a subdued Christmas. My Mom has a little tribe of outdoor kittens. Their momma had them here last Spring and left after awhile. Most of the kittens remained behind plus we had a couple of others show up (perhaps helped by someone over the fence into our back yard). A few of them will come in if the weather is bad, but by and large, they have remained outside cats. This morning, one of them, Tiger, was missing. My Mom was the first to find him… He had … Continue reading

The Con has Come and Gone I thought I would give a blow-by-blow account of Atlanta Comicon 2004, but you’ll have to settle for an after-the-fact and perhaps sketchy accounting. …but only after I load the dryer, which was what I came up here for half an hour ago…. Okay, and after that episode of Trading Spaces… Friday night of the Con was a sort of party. It was a sketch jam for charity. I’ve never really been the sort of person who asked or paid for sketches, but this … Continue reading

Largely a quiet weekend. We had a good week of rain. It’s been kind of gray and lazy but I hope the periods of rain continue. My plants need the rain! Saturday I got one of my friends to go to the comic shop with me for Free Comic book day. I sent out a great many reminders to others the day before. I hope even if none of my attemps pan out others tried to get people out there! That was pretty much all of Saturday. I spent the … Continue reading

Just finished my walk this evening and am now guzzling water. Not much new at work today, which isn’t per se a bad thing. The rest of this week may be a little busier than last but not a big deal I suppose. I bought back cookies and brownies for my team, our Technical Consultants, and for a manager who had asked me to buy her some after the last time I bought some to work. These are from the “Mennonite Restaurant” back home, also known among our locals as … Continue reading

Well, this is my first post. I’m just testing out blogger to see if it will do what I want it to. It’s been a long week and I brought work home with me. I’m still getting over a touch of poison ivy so I don’t plan to do much this weekend. I have to go for my bi-weekly haul of comic books tomorrow. So, after I finish with those, I’ll probably watch some TV or movies. I watched American Pie tonight, which I just got the DVD for. I … Continue reading
