Long Awaited Updates – From DIY to Entertainment

Okay, I can only guess at how long they’ve been awaited, but I have been very MIA of late.  Nothing super exciting, but I suppose I should do a bit of updating here. The biggest thing of late has been re-doing my kitchen.  I moved in to my current abode nearly 8 years ago.  The kitchen at that time was little changed from 1988, when it was built.  All the same appliances, but the burgundy paint was probably not so original.  That was the only thing I changed then.  Repainted … Continue reading

Travel In The Land Memories Built

Despite the tons of pictures I still have to go through from the Egypt trip, the weekend found me continuing my spring cleaning.  I had a closet with two stacks of comics to file.  I won’t say how long I had put this task off but it’s not a short time. I began sorting everything and hauled out all the boxes and rapidly figured out that I was surpassing the volume of boxes I had…  The first answer wasn’t buy boxes.  The first answer was time to thin the herd, … Continue reading

Random Inspiration

It’s very interesting where we find inspiration sometimes. For a few years now, I’ve been a casual reader of Wil Wheaton’s blog.  Yes, Wil Wheaton AKA Wesley Crusher of Star Trek.  For one reason or another, I relate to some of the things he has to say, which I would never have anticipated, but same age group, similar geeky background, etc. That point stated, today’s blog is about doing what you love and living off it.   That’s a real dream.  Something so many of us long for I believe.  … Continue reading

I Will Survive

Surgery yesterday was both earlier than expected and longer than expected. I had gone home to pick up my Mom the day before and the phone rang at their house and I saw it was the hospital. I answered expecting they wanted to speak to me, but they asked for Mom. I gather they hadn’t gotten me at my house, as they talked to my Mom to let her know the surgery time was moved up an hour and a half. When they found out I was there, they spoke … Continue reading

No Threes Please

Today was back to find out the results of the MRI. Has anyone ever gotten a concrete answer from these things or is just me? Well, I’ve got good news anyway.  I have not torn or broken anything.  Tendons all intact.  Bones mostly intact.  It appears, and the x-ray showed this, that I did chip a bone but not this time.  Apparently some injury I don’t remember that may have come back to haunt me. I actually have pain in two places, one is the site of the aforementioned chipped … Continue reading

My Lucky Day?

Okay, getting ready for the show and life in general has had me hopping for weeks, so I’ve had precious little opportunity to get out with the camera. Show behind me, I figured this morning I’d get up early and get out. Of course, I get up and the sky is dark with clouds, but those photos can be atmospheric if things work out.  So, I went out with nowhere definite to go. I drove through Decatur and never spotted anywhere, followed a route that eventually had me passing by … Continue reading

Days of Leisure?

The company I work for occasionally offers discount tickets to the odd event or amusement park. But for the first time in 8 years, they gave their employees and family members the opportunity to visit Atlanta’s High Museum for free! Shockers! The moment I saw that I knew I was going. I haven’t been to the High since I was in High school. And honestly, my memories from that visit are far more centered around seeing the city and time spent with friends. The High has since expanded and taken … Continue reading

Mighty Oaks From Little Acorns Grow

I’m cautiously optimistic about my knee. In the last week, I finally experienced some improvement again. When I first started physical therapy, there was definite improvement. I went from struggling up the stairs to dull yet constant pain. It was better than before, but better is still not well. The stall has lasted quite awhile, but last week, we changed up the exercises and started doing electro stimulation on my knee. Don’t know if it’s one or both of those or it was just time, but I found myself feeling … Continue reading

No News is….

Not sure where the “no news is good news” thing comes from.  I guess it has it’s good points, but as the continuing knee saga unfolds… I’m not sure I agree… After weeks of physical therapy, I went back to the orthopedist last week.  I had improvement in physical therapy, but in the end, I had hit a plateau that I couldn’t seem to get around.  The improvement just leveled off and stopped.  And after weeks of that, the physical therapy people said it was time to go back. The … Continue reading
