Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Kroger

Almost two weeks ago, I was having my pre-op for the surgery.   The hospital is down the street in Duluth, but the opposite direction I usually go to shop and all.  That morning, I stopped by the Kroger coming from that direction instead.  It’s a slightly older and less remodeled Kroger than the mammoth one nearer to me.  The interesting thing was as I came in, they had big band music playing out over the store.  I thought it was unusual but figured maybe they had music timed to … Continue reading

Okay, this was a craptastic weekend. About mid-way through last week, I felt like my cold was improving. In fact, by Friday, all the sore throat was gone as well as most of the stuffiness, but I had a THROBBING sinus headache all day. It felt like baby elephants were trying to erupt from my cheeckbones. I resolved if it didn’t improve by Monday, I’d call the doctor. Saturday, it was MUCH worse. I have a feeling I understand why they use to think people were possessed by demons. I … Continue reading

Got home last night (Wednesday). It was on the late side. Got off of work early, and ran home and tossed everything in the car. But when I got to the comic shop, comics were late… I’m already missing two weeks between Christmas and travel. So, I waited, and waited… A large crowd gathered by the end. It was nice to have time to chit-chat before the holiday and all. And considering the traffic I still faced when I left, I might not have missed much. Had hoped a couple … Continue reading

Childhood I’ve been reflecting on childhood in the small town versus what it must be today in a place like Atlanta. I guess all things are relative to what you experienced. If you had asked me as a teenager if I would ever look back on life in a small town as something positive, I would have laughed at you. At that point in my life, I felt that there had to be more to life. This past week, I was checking out a sneak preview of a movie at … Continue reading

Spent the weekend with the folks for Mother’s day and so that I could retrieve my cats. Took Friday off, so had a three day weekend with them. Worked on painting the trim on the back of the house. It’s looking good for a house in the realm of 100 years. By the end of the summer, we should finally be done with this project. Meanwhile, my own home is in need of trim painting. I got a letter from the Home Owner’s Association alerting me to this last week. … Continue reading

I’ve been in a funk lately, just a borderline blue mood. I’ve been thinking a lot about moving closer to home. That’s even crept into a few earlier journal entries. Everytime I go home and drive back here, it seems… I dunno, like I’m driving a thousand miles instead of 150. Add to that my last trip home included a day-trip to Dothan, AL, to see my grandmother a couple of days prior to her 92nd birthday. It was a long reminder of how fragile life is and how short … Continue reading

I read something similar to this about a year ago when I moved to Alpharetta. Although I have an Alpharetta address, I technically live in unicorporated Fulton County. It’s kind of funny. I grew up inside the city limits of Montezuma, GA. My entire life before this I never lived in the “country.” Of course, there’s nothing very country about where I live. A block away are two shopping centers, little strip malls, restaurants, a couple of fast food places, etc. There’s more on that corner than in my home … Continue reading

Just finished my walk this evening and am now guzzling water. Not much new at work today, which isn’t per se a bad thing. The rest of this week may be a little busier than last but not a big deal I suppose. I bought back cookies and brownies for my team, our Technical Consultants, and for a manager who had asked me to buy her some after the last time I bought some to work. These are from the “Mennonite Restaurant” back home, also known among our locals as … Continue reading

Many days without an update but I’ve been relaxing at home with my parents. Friday my Mom and I went to Macon, Warner Robins and Byron and spent too much money shopping. Primarily I got stuff for around my house, but I also got Megatron and Sky Byte from Transformers: Robots in Disguise. I figured on liking Megatron most but he has so many alternate modes and I’ve been less inclined to learn them. Sky Byte is pretty neat. There’s something about his robot mode that reminds me of Thunderwing … Continue reading

Didn’t post anything yesterday but didn’t miss telling much. I had an uneventful day. I read the paper and watched some TV before going out for a little shopping. I had to go by Lowe’s to pick up some pine bark mulch for my back yard beds. Didn’t get quite enough so will probably go by again after work today. I also got a small houseplant for my bathroom. It supposedly will get fair-sized, so it may one day move downstair’s somewhere. After that I ran by Publix and got … Continue reading
