Life is a State of Mind

I guess you could say a fair bit has been going on in my life this year.  After a decade working with the same company, I’ve decided to cut ties and try something new.  When I figure out what that is, I’ll let you know!  It’s a long involved story for one on one time if you care, but this was the right thing for me to do right now and although it’s a little scary in this economy, I don’t remember being happier in quite some time.  My intentions … Continue reading

Mark’s Rattlesnake Roundup

Today’s title brought to us by the letter R is just my nutso way of saying that there will be a cacophony of topics ahead. A little of everything and little of value to world peace. Does the World Need Superman? Friday night, I met up with some friends, Chris and Dan, to catch Superman Returns. I had hope to see it Wednesday night after work, but work would have no part of that idea. I worked late every day. So, Friday, I scooted home and then off to meet … Continue reading

My Head is Full

Trying to get back into the habit of semi-regular exercise, which in winter is hard for me. I have a treadmill (thanks to my Mom breaking her ankle a few years ago and not being allowed to do weight-bearing exercise anymore), but there’s little I find more boring. I listen to music most of the time, and on the odd occasion will watch TV (Supernatural last night), but I find I slow down with the TV on. I like it better during the long days of summer when can get … Continue reading

As Sure As the Seasons Come and Go

Spent the day doing a little reading and in between prepping my hallway for a repainting. Whee? I also watched a few more eps from my Smallville Season One box set. There are episodes from this season I never watched because during the original run I had no interest. It was only thanks to the WB showing it on Sunday afternoons that I got hooked enough to follow the series into season two. I digress… So, last load of laundry running and I find myself at the computer after finishing … Continue reading

Sitting in traffic this morning, it occured to me how much the traffic in Atlanta has to say about the lives we lead. Even in the short five mile commute to work, there are people constantly jockeying for position. People who can’t wait their turn at the light, cut through parking lots to get ahead. It’s all part of the corporate lifestyle – people fighting for their little piece of the American dream. If it means I have to squash you to get it, I will, don’t worry. So, the … Continue reading

This is the last week of my writing class. I’m definitely going to miss it. The structure of having to produce something for class will be gone. I want something that will keep that requirment to produce there. I’ve been hunting around rather aimlessly for a website that needs freebie authors to produce regular content. That would require productivity and it would give me some experience. I finished my last piece for class yesterday afternoon. It turned out to be sort of a hybrid between a travel piece and a … Continue reading

Christmas is nearly here and I’m almost too caught up in preparing for my trip to notice. Today, I met up with April for our annual Christmas meal and gift-exchange. I’d suggested using the gift certificate I won at the office Christmas party for Ray’s Killer Creek today. Wasn’t aware that they have a Breakfast brunch on Sundays. It was actually quite enjoyable, though. We ate a little after lunch, but anyone who knows me is aware that I’m more likely to eat food that is traditionally served at Breakfast … Continue reading

Here’s a paradox. I took a day off work today to get my first annual physical. I had a very detailed check-up last year, but it was in response to being sick. I observed at the time that I never went to the doctor unless I didn’t feel well, and my doctor suggested it was time to change that. Last year turned out to be nothing more than a mold/mildew allergy. I never knew one could be so drug out and sluggish from an allergy, but I was. So, cut … Continue reading

Thanksgiving Cactus Almost two years ago, I visited my now-late grandmother at Christmas. While there, she gave me cuttings from two of her cacti. She told me one was a Thanksgiving and the other a Christmas cactus – the main difference being when they would bloom. Neither of them bloomed last year. This past January, Granny passed away, and I’m still dealing with the grief. Just now I was heading out the front door when I passed the cacti and some other plants that I moved into the foyer from … Continue reading

First post of the new year. Nothing major to report on. Christmas was a pleasant time. I had a few days to myself here before going home to the family. Spent a few days with my grandmother, Aunt, & Uncle in Dothan, AL. Got plenty more material things to crowd my space. I’ll enjoy them, but I enjoyed my time at home more. Rang in the new year with co-worker’s at a party one of them had in her and her husband’s home (thanks Cyndi!). Manged to get snowed in … Continue reading
